FAQ

The PlantHealth Master Apply FAQ

When can I apply for the next Master's intake?

The first call for applications is usually open from 1 October to 31 December - Erasmus Mundus scholarships will be awarded to selected candidates who apply during this period.

The second call for self-funded students is usually open from mid-May to mid-June.

Please refer to the ‘Calendar & Deadlines’ of the website for the exact dates for the next intake.

How can I apply for the next Master's intake?

Applications must be submitted ONLINE through the PlantHealth application platform. Any documents/information submitted outside the online application system will not be considered

When I try to create a new application using my previous username, the system redirects me to my last submission. What should I do?

Each new application requires the creation of a new account with a different username and password.

What are the language requirements?

The programme is taught in English (except courses in France during second year).

Applicants must provide an official certificate proving B2-English proficiency from one of the recognised tests listed in the ‘Documents Required for Application’.

Alternatively, we will accept an EMOI letter from your university, but please note that providing an official English certificate is always preferable.

I am interested in the French itinerary for the second year of the Master's programme. What level of French do I need?

The Master's provides B2-level French assurance through integrated first-year language classes and a complimentary two-month intensive summer course before Year 2 in France. Nonetheless, we strongly recommend you begin or continue learning French in your home country prior to the program's start for smoother integration.

Does the Master's accept Duolingo tests, TOEIC certificates, or certificates from free online courses, or from university or private language schools?

NO. The programme only accepts internationally recognised English tests.

I do not have a background in Agricultural Sciences or related studies. Can I still apply?

PlantHealth students are usually selected among candidates with a BSc in Agronomy, Agricultural Sciences or related fields, with at least 4 ECTS in Plant Health or Crop Protection, or equivalent. To determine your eligibility and readiness for the programme, our assessment process includes a thorough review of your official transcript of records. This allows us to confirm that you possess the necessary scientific prerequisite knowledge to successfully follow the programme.

Which document do I need to prove my residence?

As this document has always been difficult for our candidates to obtain, we have decided to only request proof of residence from the selected participants. If selected, you will be requested to submit a document, which must be issued within the last 12 months, indicating your current place of legal residence (i.e., residence certificate issued by a public authority, recent utility bill, rental contract, a document issued by your place of work or study, or a document issued by your country's authorities)

What type of certification or accreditation is required for the academic documentation to be uploaded to the online application?

For the application process, your academic documentation (BSc degree and transcript of records) must be official. This means they must be issued by your university and include an institutional security feature, such as a specific stamp, seal or barcode. If they were originally issued without such proof of institutional validity, they must be officially stamped and signed by the Registry Office or the administrative office responsible for certifying academic records.

At this stage, these documents do not need to be legalised/apostilled by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs/Ministry of Education. However, if you are selected, this may be requested at a later stage.

I am currently in the final year of my Bachelor of Science degree and will graduate before September. Can I apply?

Yes. Please take the following into consideration when submitting your application:

1) In the first eligibility question of the online application, you must answer 'YES'.

2) In the Documents Upload section, you are expected to upload your BSc certificate. As you do not yet have this, please upload a certificate issued by your university stating that you are in your final year of BSc studies and, if possible, your expected graduation date. If you already have a provisional certificate, please upload it.

3) In the Documents Upload section, you are expected to upload your full transcript of records. Please upload the most up-to-date version of your transcript of records.

If you are selected, you must complete your BSc before the programme starts at the end of August. If you fail to complete your BSc by your expected graduation date, your selection will be cancelled.

What is the character limit for the Motivation on the online application form?

The limit is 1,000 characters and including both spaces and text characters.

Which external elements are essential for the two recommendation letters?

Recommendation letters must include:

- the official letterhead of the company, university or organisation that the referee works for, including the organisation's name, logo and physical address,

- the referee's full contact information, including an institutional/professional email address and a professional contact number,

- the referee's signature, and

- the official seal or stamp of the organisation/university/department.

What document can I submit as proof of my socio-economic vulnerability?

You may submit any official documents that clearly demonstrate your financial situation.

- Income certificates (personal or family)

- Tax returns or tax clearance certificates

- Bank statements

- Proof of social benefits or government financial assistance

- Other relevant official document issued by a government office/recognised institution.

Please ensure that the documents cover the most recent financial year available and come with a certified English translation.

I have several documents that I need to upload to the same field, but the tool only allows one file at a time. What should I do?

Please remember that each box admits one PDF of maximum 1MB.

Please combine all documents into a single PDF and upload that file. Free online tools allow you to merge PDFs easily (i.e., https://www.ilovepdf.com/)

I cannot upload one of the required documents. How can I resolve this issue?

Please remember that each box admits one PDF of maximum 1MB.

Please ensure that the PDF does not exceed the maximum allowed size (1MB). Free online tools allow you to reduce the size of the PDF easily (i.e., https://smallpdf.com/)

I have submitted my application, but there are some errors. Can I edit it?

Once an application has been submitted, it cannot be modified. If you wish to make any changes, you will need to create a new user account and submit a new application. If an applicant submits more than one application, the system will automatically consider the most recent one.

I didn’t receive an email after submitting my application. Is this normal?

Yes. The system does not always generate an automatic confirmation email.

I need financial support to be able to participate in the Master's programme. What can I do?

The Master's programme offers Erasmus Mundus scholarships to selected candidates who apply during the first call for applications. You can find this scholarship and some other examples of possible external funding options here.

I disagree with the selection outcome. What can I do?

You may submit a formal appeal within the period specified when the results are published. Appeals are only accepted on procedural grounds (e.g., missing documents that were correctly uploaded). The committee does not reconsider the academic assessment.

I have a question that isn't answered in this FAQ. What should I do?

You can contact PlantHealth by email. See the Contact page for more details.
